Ah the yearly Western Canadian road trip where Leafs fans out west once a year. Tuesday night the Leafs will visit Calgary and play another back to back(again ugh) the following night against Edmonton Oilers and then Saturday night against the Vancouver Canucks
And how I look forward to it every year
Well...... not really first off the Leafs recent history is not really that good since the lockout the Leafs are 3-9 on the Western Canadian road trip all 3 of them being against Edmonton so thaqts 3-1 vs Edmonton and 0-4 vs Calgary and Vancouver ass on to that instead of me at work checking the game on my break its check on the game when I'm finished work since the game will be pretty much over when I'm done work yay me
Anyhoo lets start with Tuesday's game in Calgary(26-22-8) like the Leafs they are fighting a playoff spot and are 3 points behind the 8th place Phoenix Coyotes and I'm pretty sure remember having a 2-0 lead to lose it 3-2 back in Toronto on October 15th and even though that was the 3rd game of the season for the Leafs 53 games later winning in Calgary won't be an easy task considering the Leafs have lost their last 5 games in the Scotiabank Saddeldome the last win there coming on December 27th 2002 a 4-3 win.
The next night the Leafs get to take on the Sam Gagner Oilers oops.. I mean the Edmonton Oilers(22-28-5) and if last weeks game was any indication this should be a back and forth and exciting game and despite the Leafs winning 4 of their last 5 meetings in Edmonton(the loss 3-1 on December 29th 2009) winning there after playing in Calgary the night before will be no easy task and with Sam Gagner one of the hottest players in the NHL and young emerging players like Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall the Oilers won't make it easy for the Leafs here.
Now should the Leafs manage to get anything out of those 2 games Saturday they get to visit Vancouver with a 4PM local start there(really?) where the Leafs lost 5-3 to the Vancouver Canucks(35-15-6) back on December 17th(I barely remember that game) and Rogers Arena/GM Place its a building the Leafs haven't won in since December 31st 2002 a 5-3 win which is 5 straight losses and Vancouver is one of the best teams in the NHL 2nd in the West just 2 points behind the Detroit Red Wings
Bottom line is this with the Leafs in 8th only 1 point ahead of the Washington Capitals and fighting for the playoff lives and just losing their last 3 in a row playing really sloppy out of these 3 games they have to come out with at least 4 points anything less than that and the Leafs could very well be in trouble especially if they continue their woes out west as they can't afford to many more performances like Saturday against Montreal
