Brad Richards has been saying since the 2010-2011 season started that his first choice is to re-sign with the Dallas Stars, with the ownership in limbo and the team losing money, it became clear that it just wasn't going to be possible. Once it was announced that the Dallas Stars were not going to offer Richards a contract, he turned to Twitter and tweeted his fans thanking them for their years of support and that he will miss them and the City. As for the Dallas Stars their looking to trade his exclusive negotiation right before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. Richards agent, Pat Morris said that they will listen to any team that is interested in acquiring Brad Richards services. Morris also mentioned to repoters that Richards is not against signing in a Major Canadian market if the right situation presents itself. START UP THE RUMOUR MILL IN TORONTO which is one of the teams very interested in signing Richards. Besides the Toronto Maple Leafs the New York Rangers, L.A. Kings and the Detroit Red Wings are the other three front runners to sign Richards. Most people in the media think that the N.Y. Rangers are the heavy favorite to sign him because of his past relationship with head coach John Tortorella. He coached Richards when they were both with the Tampa Bay Lightning and won a Cup together in 1994. The Toronto Maple Leafs and the L.A. king will have something to say about that they both want to desperately sign Richards to solidify their number one centre positions. Both teams have more than enough cap space to give Richards the 7+million a year that it will take to get him. The Detroit Red Wings also have an outside chance of signing Richards but with Brian Rafalski retiring and Nick Lidstrom undecided whether he will play for one more year. The Wings will need to address the defensive position before they layout that kind of money on one player, but I wouldn't count them out. In this reporters humble opinion, I think that GM Brian Burke cannot afford to miss the playoffs for a fourth straight year under is reign and will move heaven and earth to sign Richards. Whether he can get him or not that's a different story but I think that next year you will see Brad Richards wearing the Blue and White to start the 2011-2012 season. ONLY TIME WILL TELL!! Where ever Richards ends up hes going to be a very rich man, good for him he earned it.
